At the helm of W&J College, John C. Knapp, Ph.D. brings a substantial history of institutional leadership to directing the college. With experience leading ambitious strategic plans, expertise directing programs focused on ethics, diversity and inclusion, and his ongoing, active engagement in the issues of contemporary higher education, Dr. Knapp embodies the ethics and values of the college and promotes the success of its students, faculty, and staff.

Led by expert speakers, faculty and students, the Symposium on Democracy is held each year on Presidents Day and examines issues and challenges inherent in sustaining democratic societies and institutions. Founded in the last days of the American Revolutionary War, Washington & Jefferson College has been committed to fostering democracy and responsible citizenship for well over two centuries.
